Napalm Death: Time waits for no slave

09/01/09  ||  Euthanatos

You know what rules? Darth Vader rules. Not the emo fag from the new movies, the original, clad in black armor one. You know what else rules? Junk food. And something more? Video games. Those are the cornerstones of rulesomeness.

I think it is safe to add Napalm Death to that list. Not that Barney and his troopers haven’t fucked up every once in a while; “Diatribes”. “Leaders Not Followers”. “Enemy of the Music Business”. You know what I’m talking about. Still, Napalm has given us some pure gems. “Scum”, “From Enslavement to Obliteration”, and have been on a recent roll, with killer albums like “Order of the Leech”, “Leaders Not Followers: Part 2”, “The Code Is Red… Long Live The Code” and “Smear Campaign”. Well, “Time Waits for no Slave” does nothing to tarnish that roll or reputation. Quite the contrary; it’s a fucking kick in your balls.

It’s surprising that these guys have been around since 1981 and are still so pissed off. Actually, it’s not that surprising; the world is in the shitter, mankind has failed miserably in all aspects of modern life, so yeah, there’s plenty to be mad about, and Barney isn’t shy to yell till kingdom come hears him. He even innovates with some differentiated singing, like in the title-track. And I really liked that. That is one of the more inviting reasons to listen to modern era Napalm Death; they’re not afraid to try some new stuff, and what’s great is that they don’t sound gay, or stupid, or silly, or whatever. They’ve just innovated their sound, while maintaining their crust/death/grind roots.

Is this album better than “Smear Campaign”? I’m not sure if better, but on par it is, for sure. It’s incredibly fun, diverse and honest. Can you ask anything more from a death metal album? I think not.

Long live Barney and his vegetarian faggotry.

The cover: Pretty nifty montage if gory images. Badass.
